Next exchange holidays

Holiday dates are taken from the exchange calendar as reported by official notices and the press; check the official NGX announcement before trading.

The Nigerian Exchange runs its equities market on a fixed weekly pattern, and the page shows the current status of each phase. Sessions follow the exchange calendar rather than any individual broker's schedule.

    Phases of the trading day

Trading begins with a pre-open period, when orders may be entered, amended or cancelled but no match takes place. The main session follows, during which bids and offers interact continuously and trades are executed. The day ends with the closing auction, a short window in which orders are collected and the closing price is determined. After the auction, the market moves to a post-close period and then closes.

    Public holidays

The exchange closes on declared public holidays, and the usual phases do not run on those days. A holiday falling on a weekday removes that day from the trading calendar, while a holiday falling on a weekend has no additional effect. The page status reflects the published calendar.

    Reading the status line

The status line names the phase in progress, such as pre-open, open, closing auction, post-close or closed. It also flags non-trading days, so a visitor can tell at a glance whether the market is accepting orders or has finished for the day. A broker's own platform hours may differ from the exchange phases shown here.
